Bhutan Discovered two new species of Snails

๐‘†๐‘–๐‘›๐‘œ๐‘’๐‘›๐‘›๐‘’๐‘Ž ๐‘โ„Ž๐‘ข๐‘๐‘ฆ๐‘™๐‘–๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘๐‘Ž from Pemagatshel and ๐‘†๐‘–๐‘›๐‘›๐‘œ๐‘’๐‘›๐‘›๐‘’๐‘Ž ๐‘›๐‘–๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘– from Zhemgang.

The news was published in the Basteria journal in April 2021. The two new species are determined using DNA sequencing along with morphological descriptions.

๐‘†๐‘–๐‘›๐‘œ๐‘’๐‘›๐‘›๐‘’๐‘Ž ๐‘โ„Ž๐‘ข๐‘๐‘ฆ๐‘™๐‘–๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘๐‘Ž has cylindrical shell with the whorls having prominent ribs and ๐‘†๐‘–๐‘›๐‘›๐‘œ๐‘’๐‘›๐‘›๐‘’๐‘Ž ๐‘›๐‘–๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘– has broad shell above the middle which narrow downs the base.

In another article, two new records of a snail and a mussel are reported from Bhutan: ๐‘ƒ๐‘–๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘ข๐‘š ๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘ค๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘ก๐‘– and ๐‘‡๐‘–๐‘๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘ฅ ๐‘๐‘“. โ„Ž๐‘œ๐‘œ๐‘˜๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘– from Jomolhari.

The specimens of the species are deposited at the National Invertebrate Repository Centre at the National Biodiversity Center, Bhutan (NBC) in Serbithang.
